About
B&N Food Market History

Garnett (Newt) and Betty (Mammie) Newton started B&N Food Market in 1970- along with Betty's parents, James & Lorena Bailey, who were half owners. The name B&N comes from those two namesakes, Bailey & Newton.
Mammie and Newt ran the store and established the grocery as a staple to the Bagdad community. Delivering groceries to the locals and supplying daily needs. Newt's loud and funny demeanor turned him into the honorary mayor of Bagdad, he was known and loved by everyone.

In 1988 Mammie and Newt's son, Rusty and his wife Mary Jo, purchased the store from them and continued the family tradition. Newt continued to work under the ownership of Rusty and it was his idea to add hot food to the menu. In the early 90s– the "Newt" burger was born. Newt continued to work under Rusty's leadership up until he was 85. He walked to work with his walking stick and his oxygen tank on his back.

Justin "Buckshot" Warren (grandson of Garnett & Betty) started working around the store in the early 90s as well, around the age of 7. Justin fell in love with the business, and knew from an early age that he wanted to be like his grandad and own the business one day

B&N continued to grow throughout the 2000s and Buckshot's desire for ownership grew as well. Ashley and Buckshot married in 2013, and in 2014 purchased B&N Food Market from Rusty and Mary Jo. Buckshot & Ashley have since added an addition to the store, a beer cave, a smokehouse, an outdoor picnic shelter and remodeled the kitchen. Buckshot's bbq, and viral personality, is what is now bringing people to Bagdad!

The family tradition has continued over the years. Several family members have worked there- some for one shift, some for many years! Ashley's mom is now a vital part of Buckshot & Ashley's success.

Mammie is still watching the success of B&N, she is 94, and Buckshot & Ashley's twins are the highlights of her days!
